Background:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW Madison) is a public research university in Madison, Wisconsin. UW Madison is the official state university of Wisconsin and the flagship campus of the University of Wisconsin system. It was the first public university established in Wisconsin.
Program Outline:
The Department of Statistics in theSchool of Management at USTC and the Department of Statistics in the College ofLetters & Science at UW Madison are cooperating to establish an opportunityfor qualified undergraduate USTC students to attend courses at UW Madison asnon-degree visiting international students in their fourth year ofbaccalaureate study. These students, upon successful completion of their USTCbaccalaureate degree will be eligible to apply for admission to the UW Madisongraduate degree, "Master of Arts — Statistics 'Data Science Option'."
Each year, USTC will nominate 5 undergraduatestudents to study as full-time, non-degree seeking students through theVisiting International Student Program (VISP) at UW Madison for a period of upto one year (Fall and Spring terms).
All USTC studentsparticipating in the VISP must enrol fulltime each semester of study at UW Madison. Fulltime enrolment for undergraduate-level students equates to between12-18 academic credits.
USTC studentswill enrol in undergraduate and graduate-level UW Madison Department of Statistics courses. Students accepted into the VISP will not be permitted to apply to transfer into other UW Madison academic programs.
Am I Qualified?
USTC will selectstudents of good academic standing to nominate them for the VISP program. Students nominated in this fashion will:
· Have completed three years of study inthe Department of Statistics at USTC;
· Have achieved an average of 75% orgreater (equivalent to a B or 3.0 or better on a
· U.S. 4-point grading scale) in their first three years of study at USTC;
· Have achieved an average of at least 75% in all Mathematics and Statistics courses (equivalent to a B or3.0 or better on a U.S. 4-point grading scale) taken in the first three yearsof study at USTC;
· Have sufficient English language skills to complete their academic program, generally a minimum TOEFL score of 80 (Internet-based), 550 (paper-based), or IELTS score of 6.5 or higher; and
· Meet all requirements for admission to VISP as outlined on their website.
Costs and Fees:
Students in theYear 4 VISP will pay non-resident tuition and segregated fees at the rate assessed to University Special students. Students are responsible for their living expenses including but not limited to housing, meals, mandatory SHIP health insurance, travel expenses, books and supplies, etc.
Enrolled students hosted by the UW Madison can use clinical services on the same terms as UW Madison enrolled degree-seeking students. However, all students hosted at the UW Madison must purchase the UW Madison mandatory health insurance plan for international students (SHIP).
Housing:
USTC students are responsible for finding their own housing. The students can arrange to live off-campus in an apartment, private residence hall (dormitory),or a Co-op, or if space permitting, they may apply to live in on-campus housing in a University Residence Hall/Apartment (campus run dormitory). The Division of Continuing Studies VISP advisor and website can help identify other options.
Visa:
UW Madison will issue appropriate documents for visa purposes. Students must show proof of adequate funds to support their school and living expenses for the length of their stay in order to receive their student visa. This support can be documented through a combination of personal, family or scholarship funds,as outlined by US government regulations.
Graduate Study Option:
Students who are admitted to and complete one year of study in this VISP cohort are eligible to apply for admission to the UW Madison Graduate School, Master of Arts Statistics Data Science Option program. Admission to the UW Madison Graduate School is not guaranteed. At a minimum, students must meet the following prerequisites in order to be competitive candidates for admission:
· Completion of a baccalaureate degree at USTC after completing the VISP program;
· Achievement of a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (B), with no grade below 2.0 (C), in all Statistics courses taken at UW Madison (please note there will be no opportunity to repeat courses to improve grades);
· Satisfaction of all criteria for admission to the UW Madison Graduate School, as described at http://grad.wisc.edu/admissions/.
There is a fee for application to the UW Madison Graduate School. This will be the same application fee for all students.
Students admitted to the UW Madison Graduate School are assessed the full non-residenttuition rate and segregated fees at the rate assessed to Graduate students.
Students admitted to the Graduate School and enrolled in the Master of Arts Statistics Data Science Option program must successfully complete the courses and degree requirements prescribed by the UW Madison Department of Statistics and the UW Madison Graduate School. Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least B with no grade below C and are subject to all regulations applicable to graduate students at UW Madison.
